Why Phoenix FC ?

Hello, my name is Danny Mena, the Owner and Trainer at Phoenix FC in San Antonio, Texas. As a soccer coach, I have had the opportunity to coach teams with highly successful seasons and some that were not as successful. I have been blessed to coach teams that made it to playoffs and achieved a State Title. So, why did I create Phoenix F.C.? I noticed that not all players and teams possessed the same technical / tactical skills necessary to be successful on the field. While watching a few players that I have private trained play in their games, I found it difficult to watch a single team unable to move the ball up the field and take shots on goal. I then felt it was time to move in a different direction and form teams and help players see the game and enjoy playing without the stressful coach on the sideline. Youth players (4-18) want to play the game and apply what they have learned and take chances. We believe that failure is not the end, but only the beginning of their growth. That is why we encourage players to make mistakes as long as they create new ones. We can strive for excellence and maintain our standards we set to achieve our goals, but there is no room for any player to feel they are unable to play the game. We work hard to create an enriched learning environment that promotes a steady progression at a pace where players feel confident to explore and be rewarded when they apply what they have learned.

Last, we want all players to love the game and Phoenix FC is the right Soccer Club to help players see they can achieve success one training session at a time.

Building Confidence in Our Players

Emma, the player in the game team photo above, is holding the soccer ball signed by her teammates. She has been playing for various soccer teams and associations in San Antonio for the past 6 years. She has always played defense and was given very few opportunities to move up and play in an offensive position. This is her first season playing for Phoenix FC, and we challenged her to play in the offensive position. In her six years of playing Emma has never scored a goal in a regulation game. With her new team, Emma not only scored her first goal this season, but she scored two goals in one game and another in the following game. We are very proud of her success and her confidence to attempt to shoot and find the back of the net in multiple games.

Here at Phoenix FC, we focus on the player's development and encourage players to explore different positions in the games.

We believe that players, like Emma just need to be given the opportunities grow and cast light on what is possible. Now Emma has new goals and is currently working hard to expand her role on the team.
